Hello everybody!

I finally decided to put my laziness aside and create a blog. And I thought that most people never heard the popular brazilian music that plays on radio, tv programs and is consumed in the country (and Portugal and a few other portuguese speaking countries). So here it is! I'll try to post as much information as possible about pop/rock/other genres groups, singers and songwriters, videos and links to where to find their music. Brazil has a rich musical scene. And especially from the 80's on(which brought the end of the military rule and censorship in the country). If you like to find new music, even if it is in a language that you don't undestand...you came to the right place! After all, music is trully a universal language! Enjoy!

And to get things started, one of the best brazilian pop-rock bands, "Os Paralamas do Sucesso". Formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 70's and still active. From the very beginning they combined rock, ska, reggae and brazilian rythms, but being influenced by The Police in the early 80's. The band's name in english is something like "The Fenders of the Success". Fenders being related to the car part(!!!), not the famous guitar. I know...it's weird, but hey who cares about a name, is the music that matters! The band is a trio, lead by herbert Vianna (guitars, lead vocals, main songwriter), Bi Ribeiro (bass) and Joao Barone (drums). This song is one of the breakthrough hits from their second LP(1984), " O Passo do Lui" (Lui's step) and is called ...

"Oculos"(glasses) mp3

Their first hit in 1983 was "Vital e sua moto" (Vital and his bike) the song is about their former drummer Vital and his beloved bike. Here in a version recorded in 1990 for the album "Arquivo". Their first best of CD.
